Ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child needs to be ratified by the U.S. Senate. This treaty is the legally binding international instrument to guarantee the basic human rights of children right to survival; to develop the fullest; to protection from harmful influences, abuse and exploitation; and to participate fully in family, cultural and social life.

This document was reviewed during the Reagan administration and signed by President Clinton, but never ratified by the U.S. Senate. One hundred ninety-three members of the United Nations have ratified this treaty. Only Somalia, South Sudan and the United States have not! What an embarrassment for our country -- the country of the document's origin!

Join the United States Board on Books for Young People (USBBY) in support of assuring rights for every child.

10th IBBY Regional Conference Bubbled Over With JOY!!

St. Louis proved to be a perfect venue for "BookJoy Around the World"! Those attending were treated to many wonderful, unique and meaningful definitions of "BookJoy" through serious and playful sessions. Heartfelt thanks to our wonderful special guests starting with Ashley Bryan and Pat Mora to whom we are grateful for interpreting the USBBY International Children´s Book Day theme and the theme of the conference. Every speaker gave us "words to live by" and we learned from each other as well! To all who assisted in making this conference a HUGE success, including all of those who "met me in St. Louis", I thank you for your enthusiasm, dedication and most of all, your support of USBBY!

With affection,
Kathy East
